Liu Yiyuan
Born in 1942, Liu Yiyuan has gained a unique place in the Chinese contemporary ink painting world. He seeks to find a rational balance between emotional expression and artistic experimentation, as well as between Chinese classical paradigms and Western contemporary influences, which makes his works different from those of “abstract ink paintings" that completely abandon traditional teaching, whilst also different from "new literati paintings" that adhere to the factors of brush and ink. His works are bold and deeply introspective, a nearly perfect combination between the author's "image" and the experimental motif “landscape".
Currently, Liu works as Professor of Chinese painting at Hubei Academy of Fine Arts. His works has been shown in Himalayas Art Museum Shanghai, Shanghai Art Museum, Shenzhen Fine Art Institute, and The National Art Museum of China.
