Liang Quan
Born in Zhongshan, Guangdong in 1948, he grew up in Shanghai and now lives in Shenzhen. In 1964, he was admitted to the High School Attached to Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts. In 1981, he went to San Francisco College of Art to study printmaking. He was one of the first Chinese contemporary artists to study in the United States after the "Cultural Revolution" of the last century, and one of the earliest artists in Chinese contemporary art who engaged in abstract creation. The key to his artistic work is that the intertextuality and combination of eastern and western vision culture. His work maintains the focus on modern and contemporary Western culture through formal channels, but reversely constructs an aesthetic framework that is different from Western art. While absorbing the experience of modern and contemporary art in the West, the artist also used this approach to return to the source of the Chinese art tradition, thereby presenting the oriental height of contemporary art.
